About Yut

Sou S’dai!

My name’s Yut, and I am a tour guide and trip leader based in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

This website is a space for me to share my tours and the experiences I can offer with prospective visitors to Cambodia. But first, let me share with you a little about myself…

From the age of 8 – 25 I was a Buddhist monk, which means I spent 17 years wearing the bright orange robes you see so often when you’re walking around in Cambodia! Despite the fact that monks are not permitted to eat after noon I loved being a monk, and it has very much shaped the person that I am today. I have a deep love and respect of Buddhist philosophy, and I am always happy to chat about my experiences if my guests are interested.

Ordaining as a monk meant that I was lucky enough to have a good education, and was able to practice my English with travellers visiting my pagoda. Eventually I decided that I wanted to do more to share my beautiful country with visitors than I was able to as a monk, so I de-robed and studied to become a certified tour guide in Siem Reap.

I gained my guide license in 2008, and since then have worked leading tours in Siem Reap – specifically at the temples of Angkor – and extended trips across Cambodia. I work regularly with families (including small children), groups of friends, business associates, and am also regularly hired by educational tour companies as a leader and facilitator for student study trips.

Yut While I have spent many years learning about Cambodia’s history, culture, and religion, my real passion is sharing my beautiful country with visitors.

Cambodia’s past is a fascinating combination of magnificent and troubled, but there are also many wonderful things happening in modern Cambodia that I also aim to share with my guests. That is why I describe my tours as ‘custom tours for curious travelers’!
